Hold a Baby Lamb in Ireland

Hold a Baby Lamb in Ireland

This was our favorite experience in Ireland!! My kids loved it 😄!  The baby lambs are so cute and soft. Surprisingly, they are cuddly and friendly too ☺️.  It was definitely worth the travel from Galway.  The scenery was beautiful along Slea Head Drive and the whole way to the Dingle Peninsula!  The drive took us 4 hours with one stop for a bathroom break.

When you arrive, you will drive up a steep hill and park on the left side of the road.  You will see a beautiful view of the ocean and note that it’s quite windy there.  The man in charge of retail was friendly and kind. He checked our tickets and directed us where to go and find the baby lambs.  They were located in the closest bee hive hut.  He also offered the restrooms if needed, which were inside of the gift store.

As you enter the hut, you will notice hay everywhere and a little gate to go through.  There were about six lambs in there and two of them were really little. There were two other groups of people in there too, so it was a little snug.  We waited until they were done holding the babies and we pet the other lambs in the meantime.

You really just need to get in there and pick the lambs up.  Don’t be afraid or shy, they are cuddly.  It’s somewhat difficult to pick them up at first because they run away.  I had to quickly pick them up for my children and place them in their arms to hold.

We stayed in the hut for about 30 minutes and then went back outside to look at the other ancient bee hive huts (clocháns).  Really neat!  Basically, it’s layers of drystone placed in a rounded position to form the hut.  It  has a corbelled roof where the stones are stacked inward forming a dome.  Historians believe that these huts were used for monks to pray in.

When you’re done there is a big wash tub outside to wash your hands in or you could use one of the two bathrooms inside of the gift shop.

Before we left, we went into the gift shop and purchased a cute little lamb knickknack and some snacks.  We spent 45 minutes total here.  Loved the experience!!
