Dublin Castle, Ireland
Dublin Castle
When visiting Ireland, Dublin Castle should be on your list! It was originally a medieval Viking fortress. Now it is known as a historic site and used by the Irish government. Here you will see many historic portraits, beautiful architecture on the ceiling, and sparkling chandeliers. There are also a few fancy rooms throughout. Tip: It isn’t too far from St. Patrick’s Cathedral, you can just walk there. The sidewalks get crowded, so try to stay together.
There is a big open paved area where you enter the castle. Once inside a greeter directs you which way to go and there are also arrows pointing in the direction of where to start. It took us 45 minutes to walk through and that’s without stopping to read much. It will take you longer if you like to browse and read. There is a lot of information here, so the amount of time it takes you really depends on how much time you want to spend.
On the backside of Dublin Castle there was a giant courtyard and a paved path surrounding the perimeter of the yard. There were benches to sit on and pretty florals to see along the path. Tip: You can get some nice photos back here:).
The temple bar is walking distance from the Dublin Castle and a popular choice for tourists to stop at. We did not go in, but plan to on our next visit. You will walk through a lively area full of shops, restaurants, bars, and music. Neat area to walk through, even if you don’t stop.
